Going since 1892 and still going, stronger than ever!

That is Wecke & Voigts in the Gustav Voigts Centre in the heart of Windhoek. From the humble beginnings of our first store, here pictured with founders Gustav and Albert Voigts standing in the door with Herero Chief Asser Riarua and Trader McDonald to the then impressive setup with slaughter cattle in the yard, and on to the present building with its striking facade as part of the Gustav Voigts Centre in Independence Avenue where it all started.
Still a private family business and truly Namibian, conditions have not always been easy with fierce competition from the multinationals moving in from South Africa. Wecke & Voigts has always paid all their taxes in Namibia thus supporting development in our country, has been a good corporate citizen, an employer of choice applying highest ethics in business.

Through innovation (in 1972 we had the first air-conditioned store in the country) and entrepreneurial courage with the help of our loyal staff we have managed to stay at the top.

This traditional Namibian business is now in the hands of the fourth generation, in excellent hands indeed, with me as representative of the third generation, watching from the sideline.

Good luck to them!

Dieter Voigts,
Chairman
